The Counseling Not Criminalization in Schools Act (Federal)

Zero Tolerance policies don't work. Cops in schools do not make them safer.

It's time we put federal dollars towards what does work and what does make schools safer.

The Counseling Not Criminalization in Schools Act (H.R.2739/S.TBD):

-Prohibits the use of federal funds for hiring, recruiting, and placing police officers in K-12 schools.

-Establishes a grant program to increase access to counselors, social workers, and other support personnel and trauma-informed services. 

-Does not ban or remove police from schools.

-Does not bar schools from hiring police officers or stop federal funding from being used to hire non-police security personnel.

America's marginalized students have bared the brunt of the failed 'school hardening' policies - Black, Native American, and Latino students, immigrant students, students with disabilities, LGBTQI+ students, students experiencing homelessness, and students involved in the foster care system have been disproportionately arrested, suspended, expelled, restrained, and secluded... it doesn't have to be this way.
