Illinois students and families are at risk of losing critical community school services as federal funding for ACT Now Illinois' Full-Service Community Schools (FSCS) grants is set to expire on June 30. These grants support 32 schools serving more than 19,000 students across Illinois with academic enrichment, mental health services, family engagement programs, food and clothing assistance, and other essential supports. The U.S. Department of Education's decision not to continue funding threatens these proven programs and the communities that rely on them.

Dear Representative {{legislator:last_name}},I urge you to take immediate action by contacting the U.S. Department of Education regarding the Full-Service Community Schools (FSCS) grants awarded to ACT Now Illinois.In 2024, ACT Now Illinois was awarded two federal FSCS State-Scaling grants to expand Community School initiatives in 32 schools serving more than 19,000 students and families across rural, suburban, and urban communities throughout Illinois. These schools provide essential academic, mental health, family engagement, and wraparound supports that help students thrive and address barriers to learning.In December 2025, the U.S. Department of Education issued a Notice of Non-Continuation for these grants, placing these critical programs at serious risk. Although ACT Now Illinois is challenging this decision in court, available funding will end on June 30th. Without immediate intervention, students will lose summer programs, families will lose food and clothing assistance, and the workforce will be impacted Thousands of students and families who depend on these supports are at risk of losing access to resources that strengthen academic achievement, attendance, well-being, and family stability. The impact will be felt in communities across Illinois.I respectfully ask that you urgently contact the U.S. Department of Education and advocate for unrestricted access to carryover funds and the full restoration of the Full-Service Community Schools grants awarded to ACT Now Illinois.
