2023: in a major win for kids, the New York Board of Regents set a new floor with safety regulations for schools including the prohibition of corporal punishment, aversive interventions, prone restraint, and seclusion for all students.
Now: NY A.5148 seeks to codify that excellent progress into law so that these important protections are secured. Additionally, A.5148 provides training for educators that would be truly effective in supporting students - evidence-based positive, proactive problem-solving interventions.
Replacing dangerous, ineffective interventions with effective practices means safer educators, safer kids, and safer classrooms.
