October 24, 2024, marks Lights On
Afterschool (LOA) 2024! This year, we are celebrating 25 years of Lights On
Afterschool - the only annual and nationwide event that celebrates the
importance of afterschool programs and the role they play in the lives of young
people, their families, and diverse communities.
Lights On Afterschool is also a great time to educate policymakers about the importance of investing in high-quality out-of-school time (OST) experiences for youth in Illinois. We know that OST programs provide safe spaces for youth to renew learning, make meaningful connections with peers and mentors, and build critical life skills for the future. Afterschool programs also serve families by providing child care opportunities and facilitating wraparound assistance such as mental/physical health services.
ACT NOW by sending this action alert to your legislators - help advocate for your local programs and afterschool colleagues and celebrate the field!
